piano keys

Each of Steinway's 88 keys is made of Bavarian spruce with a polymer surface. The polymer key surfaces are more durable; the white keys do not yellow over time and are easier to replace than the ivory that used to be used for the keys.
Each of the keys delivers its movement to a small, felt- covered wooden hammerwhich strikes one, two or three strings when the note is played.
German silver spruce or Bavarian spruce- a tall spruce with blue-green needles and dense conic crown; older trees become columnar with lower branches sweeping downward.
